2025
Solo Exhibition
Bota Rasa – Évora

This exhibition is composed of an art installation titled "YUGEN", a photographic book "The Strength of the Light", and a photographic exhibition "Here".

The works engage in dialogue with one another, creating an experience where different art forms intertwine to explore, in an introspective and poetic way, the complexities of the world around us and the beauty within it.

HERE was chosen as the title for this exhibition because it is “HERE” that we live — in this world we often fail to appreciate. The exhibition invites us to reflect on the importance of valuing the place we inhabit and of looking attentively at our surroundings, learning to cherish the small moments. It encourages us to practise the art of living in the present, consciously and with gratitude, for it is here and now that we exist — and, without realising it, the moment has already passed.

YUGEN

The installation "YUGEN" reflects on the importance of reclaiming the curious and sensitive gaze of childhood — the one that is fascinated by the small things around us, such as colours, textures, and sounds.

Light and the fluidity of life are the central themes, representing the vital energy and the constant movement that define our existence. The work seeks to express emotions and profound thoughts that we often cannot put into words, revealing that transcendent force that resides within everything and everyone.

Photographic Series

here

The photographic series "HERE" emerges as an extension and dialogue between the ideas explored in the projects "The Strength of the Light" and "Yugen." Created in parallel with the filming of "Yugen," this series reflects the interaction between my perceptions of the world around me, revealing the conversation between my ideas and the creative process behind these works.

The Strength of the Light

The photographic book "The Strength of the Light" explores light as a force beyond its physical intensity, revealing the beauty in life's imperfections and the energy that connects all living beings to the universe.

We are movement.

Instead of always trying to control our bodies, sometimes it’s important to let them lead us. It’s not about how it looks, but about how it makes us feel.

Listen! Listen actively!

Where does your body want to move?
Where does your hand lead you?
What shapes emerge when you allow yourself to simply feel?

Working with our energy is an experience that cannot be explained.

FEEL IT

If it moves you, move with it...

This artistic project is based on the exploration of spontaneous movement in art, seeking to value authentic and free expression.

Instead of meticulously planning each composition, I chose to follow an intuitive approach, allowing the body to move naturally and letting creation emerge in a fluid way. I believe that art, beyond technique, is a space of freedom, discovery, and self-knowledge, and that it plays a therapeutic role in our lives.

The practice involved the use of various materials, with the aim of experimenting and understanding how different textures and tools influence the visual and expressive outcome of the drawing. In addition to traditional materials, I also tested unconventional elements, allowing each object to contribute its own unique mark.

Another important aspect was the influence of external and internal factors on the creative process. The state of mind and the surrounding environment played a central role in the way gestures manifested on paper. In this way, these elements were not merely a backdrop but active agents in the construction of form.

Initially, I considered alternating between coloured and monochromatic drawings. However, after several experiments, I realised that the monochromatic language offered greater visual coherence and allowed for deeper focus on form and movement. I also decided to use sheets of different formats and sizes, not only for the impact they have on the creative process.

For this project, I decided to share my experience with the health problem I am currently facing, as it has profoundly affected every aspect of my life. For seven months now, I have been dealing with a condition in my hands, the nature of which has been difficult to diagnose and treat effectively. Initially, the problem began with tendinitis in my right hand, caused by repetitive strain at work. However, as time went by, the situation became more complex, and the source of the pain grew increasingly unclear. After two fortnights of physiotherapy with no significant improvement, the pain also spread to my left hand. Today, both hands are affected, making it impossible to move them without intense pain. Despite numerous tests and multiple medical appointments, the diagnosis remains uncertain and without a concrete solution. Throughout this process, I have been the target of many opinions about the cause of the problem — from health professionals, of course, but also from many others who, armed with a certain confidence, kindly enlighten me with their speculations, as if they held the key to this enigma. I have therefore decided to record this experience in this photographic series, not only as a physical account but also as a testimony to the psychological strain that my condition has caused. The limitations I face, more than weakening my body, have worn down my mental health. I have reached a point where, often, I no longer recognize my own reflection in the mirror, for naturally, my body has become a reflection of my emotional and psychological state, transforming as my internal struggle intensifies. Throughout this notebook, you will be able to follow a small part of my journey, between medical exams and uncertainties. To conclude the notebook, I chose a question that, despite being filled with the best intentions, echoes incessantly in my daily life: “Are you feeling better?” — as if a problem that has lasted this long could improve overnight.
