PHOTOGRAPHIC BOOKS

For this project, I decided to share my experience with the health problem I am currently facing, as it has profoundly affected every aspect of my life. For seven months now, I have been dealing with a condition in my hands, the nature of which has been difficult to diagnose and treat effectively. Initially, the problem began with tendinitis in my right hand, caused by repetitive strain at work. However, as time went by, the situation became more complex, and the source of the pain grew increasingly unclear. After two fortnights of physiotherapy with no significant improvement, the pain also spread to my left hand. Today, both hands are affected, making it impossible to move them without intense pain. Despite numerous tests and multiple medical appointments, the diagnosis remains uncertain and without a concrete solution. Throughout this process, I have been the target of many opinions about the cause of the problem — from health professionals, of course, but also from many others who, armed with a certain confidence, kindly enlighten me with their speculations, as if they held the key to this enigma. I have therefore decided to record this experience in this photographic series, not only as a physical account but also as a testimony to the psychological strain that my condition has caused. The limitations I face, more than weakening my body, have worn down my mental health. I have reached a point where, often, I no longer recognize my own reflection in the mirror, for naturally, my body has become a reflection of my emotional and psychological state, transforming as my internal struggle intensifies. Throughout this notebook, you will be able to follow a small part of my journey, between medical exams and uncertainties. To conclude the notebook, I chose a question that, despite being filled with the best intentions, echoes incessantly in my daily life: “Are you feeling better?” — as if a problem that has lasted this long could improve overnight.
